How to Join 4-H

4-H is the largest out of school youth organization in the United States with over 7 million youth members. The WVU Extension service is responsible for 4-H in Harrison County and they sponsor a variety of 4-H programs and activities. Whether you live in downtown Clarksburg or one of our rural communities, there’s something for you in 4-H.

The 4-H Year is October 1 to September 30. An individual of 4-H age may enroll in and carry 4-H membership in only one state and one county. In West Virginia, you can join 4-H if you are between the ages of 8-21. The individual can join when he/she is in at least the third grade and/or 9 years of age. (Example: a child can join 4-H if he/she is 8 years of age and will reach his/her 9th birthday by September 30th of the current 4-H club year). We even have some special age-appropriate programs designed especially for kids in grades K-2. Contact us to find out what projects and activities are available for youth your age.

The Harrison County WVU Extension Service can help you to find a local club or program that’s right for you. Or, it’s easy to start a new club with some of your friends or other interested young people and a few adults willing to help. Contact us today to find out more about 4-H and how to JOIN THE CLUB !
